Parent Volunteer Opportunities
Room parents are our biggest encouragers and gatherers – encouraging our teachers and staff in their work with our children and building community among students and families.
What does a room parent do?
- Coordinates with other class parents to promote social opportunities outside of school for children, parents and families in the class. Some examples for inspiration:
- A standing weekly or monthly park playdate at Tower Grove after school.
- A MarioKart tournament for the Dads.
- A family picnic in a park on a Saturday afternoon.
- Meeting at Ted Drewes’ for ice cream on a Friday night.
- Coordinates the celebration of the teacher’s birthday (or half birthday) with a small gift or encouragement from the class.
- One time during the school year coordinates with class parents to stock the fridge in the teacher workroom with cold drinks and grab ‘n go snacks.
- Points parents in the class to participate in school wide teacher encouragement at Christmas and during Teacher Appreciation Week.
Join Erin Mesh, our volunteer Garden Coordinator in our school garden this year. No experience necessary, only a good attitude and a willingness to dig in needed! Our students love working in the garden with Erin Mesh, our volunteer garden coordinator. Volunteers willing to help maintain the garden allow Erin more time to invest in our students.
Recess duty is coming back! Beginning after Labor Day, parents are invited to sign up as a recess monitor for their child’s class on Tuesdays or Fridays. Get to know another parent from your child’s class when you are paired up to supervise recess while giving your child’s classroom teacher extra planning time.
Parents should expect to follow all symptom screening procedures for COVID-19. Parent volunteers will be asked about their vaccination status, which will be kept confidential, for contact tracing purposes. Parent volunteers will be required to follow the same masking requirements as our staff on the playground. Upon arrival parents should check in at the main school entrance on Reber Place and then meet their child’s class on the playground.
Volunteer to Help at Drop Off
Interested in helping children enter the school building safely and efficiently in the morning? Join our staff team as we welcome students in the unloading zone. On the day you sign up, plan to arrive and park at school by 8:15 a.m. and meet our staff team in the unloading zone. Your own students will be the first in the door at 8:20 a.m.
Our staff team will give you a specific assignment when you arrive. Since this volunteer role comes with a bit of a learning curve, each slot is a commitment for an entire month’s worth of each weekday morning. Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up.
By signing up you agree to comply with our contact tracing team and the city department of health, including quarantine requirements and disclosing your vaccination status, in the event that there is a COVID case on campus.
Ditto Family Resale
Our school partners with seven other local Christian schools to support Ditto Family Resale. Profits go directly to our schools to provide scholarships, help offset rising tuition costs, and assist families who could not otherwise afford a Christian education. They also share a portion with other public and private schools in the area – an aim inspired by Hebrews 13:16 and championed by our school leaders since Ditto’s inception.
Each year SCCS parents and friends fill volunteer positions to fulfill our school’s requirements in order to receive our full profit share. Volunteers support the paid staff by assisting with processing clothing and other merchandise, straightening the sales floor, and working the dressing rooms. Each shift is two hours, and volunteers get 20% off storewide the day they serve. For safety reasons, volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.
This year SCCS is scheduled to staff October 25-30, 2021 and April 25-30, 2022. Shift schedules are outlined below. The link to sign up will be published here and in the Friday Email once available.
